Shelter found a dog Libby- having ball size Tumor in his leg- what they’d done to him?

Animal shelters are often the last beacon of hope for creatures in need, offering comfort, healing, and—most importantly—a second chance. Some of the animals who arrive at their doors are in heart-wrenching shape, yet the selfless teams behind these shelters rise to the challenge, no matter how dire the case.

One such story is that of a sweet dog named Libby, whose condition was both shocking and heartbreaking. When she was brought to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County (HSTPC), she was carrying a massive tumor weighing nearly 10 pounds—roughly the size of a volleyball. It was one of the largest growths the shelter had ever encountered.

To make matters even more challenging, Libby arrived during an overwhelming period: HSTPC had just handled three emergency cases in under two days, all while managing the daily intake of countless animals. Yet despite the chaos, the team didn’t hesitate. They were determined to give Libby every ounce of compassion and medical attention she needed.

“She deserves the gentlest, most loving care we can offer,” the shelter shared in an update. “We’re still uncertain about what lies ahead for her, but she’s receiving pain relief and being showered with affection while we investigate her condition.”

Veterinary scans soon revealed that the tumor was embedded in the bone of her upper right leg. The inflammation had grown so intense that it caused severe swelling and constant pain. The only viable solution was to remove the leg entirely.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors, the shelter was able to fund the surgery. The team at BluePearl Pet Hospital performed the amputation, and the operation was a success. For the first time in what must have felt like ages, Libby was finally free from her relentless suffering.

However, her battle wasn’t over.

Post-surgery tests confirmed their worst fears: Libby had a form of bone cancer known to be aggressive. The prognosis was grim, and her time might be limited. Still, life had one more miracle in store.

Amidst her recovery, a veterinary technician crossed paths with Libby—and fell completely in love. Moved by her gentle spirit and soulful eyes, the vet tech made a life-changing decision: to adopt Libby and ensure that, no matter how much time she had left, every moment would be filled with love, security, and warmth.

“There’s a look in her eyes that just pleads for love and safety,” her new guardian shared in a touching Facebook post. “I couldn’t walk away from her.”

Now renamed Wiggles, Libby is soaking up every second in her new home. She spends her days playing with her doggy sibling, lounging on the couch, and napping in the arms of people who adore her.

Though her future remains uncertain, one thing is clear—Wiggles is finally living the life she always deserved. The Humane Society summed it up beautifully: “However long she has, she’ll be surrounded by love, thanks to the compassion of our incredible community.”

From despair to devotion, Libby’s story is a powerful reminder of what hope, love, and second chances can do. Thank you to everyone who helped turn her pain into peace.
